Innersloth Is Hard at Work on Among Us Updates
No one expected Innersloth’s 2018 title, Among Us, to be the sleeper hit we know today. The game picked up an incredible amount of traction this past year, becoming one of the most played games of the year, even reaching Platinum status on Steam.
Astounded by the game’s sudden success, Innersloth cancelled their current project, Among Us 2, in order to capitalize on the success of the game and to instead, focus their efforts on updating Among Us to ensure the millions of new players were having the best experience possible and to keep them coming back for more.
The developer announced the addition of a new map at last year’s Game Awards, but have been relatively quiet about that since.
Innersloth uploaded a new blog post explaining their intentions with the new map and other plans for the game moving forward.
“Among Us gained incredible traction pretty late into 2020 that we weren’t expecting, and that meant A LOT of change for us… not only did we need to switch back to working on Among Us after thinking it was done, but we also needed to set ourselves up more sustainably to work on the game. We had to spend 2 months just restructuring, figuring out new processes, and getting external partners to help us manage on board.” Innersloth explained.
“It’s all behind the scenes work, and while it meant time away from the game, it’ll make it easier for current and future us to develop the game better. Not to mention additional platforms (like Nintendo Switch and Xbox) means more support, certifications to go through, and whatnot. We have help from our porting partners for that, but it still means we need to make sure future things we do are supported on those platforms. There’s a ton of other things out of our control (legal issues, meetings, planning), so sometimes these things take longer as well.”
In their blog post Innersloth states their intention to release the new map in early 2021, as well as an Xbox port for the game. For PC players, the game is already available on Game Pass for PC.
