Picture the Scene
You wake up in a dark forest, all alone, with no food or water. Think it couldn’t get any worse? Well, you’ve never seen a horror movie – all sorts of horrible things happen in the woods, and Abandoned explores just one possibility – albeit one particularly scary one.
In Abandoned, you’re being hunted by a religious community, led by a power-hungry false prophet. Luckily, unlike many games in the same vein – like Outlast II, which has a similar premise – you do have the option to fight back, but there’s a catch. You have a gun, sure, but you’re untrained – and unlike other games, where you pick up your weapon for the first time and immediately start mowing down your enemies – the gunplay needs a more tactical hand. Get too freaked out, or too worn out after sprinting from your foes? Prepare for your accuracy to drop accordingly.
“We want you to be nervous come each and every enemy encounter. To be aware that a wrong move can be the deciding factor between surviving a combat scenario or not,” said Blue Box Game Studios in the announcement.
In fact, every event in the game will reportedly affect your character, Jason, with the intent of making it a personal – and realistic – nightmare.
The game will run at 60fps at a native 4K resolution, and the aim of the graphics is to make a game that’s as close to the real thing as possible.
As for why the game is a PlayStation 5 exclusive, it’s all to do with the unique features of the console, from the adaptive triggers and haptic feedback of the DualSense controller to the 3D audio which the studio hopes will make for an incredibly tense, scary, and memorable adventure.
